girlworks media began in 2008 with a mother’s desire to find a different type of magazine for her daughter. At the time, publications from the 1970’s such as Seventeen, Cosmo Girl and Teen Vogue lingered around, the content heavy with banal articles, celebrity and beauty advertising. Not much has changed, non?
Janet and Victoria Kim created girlworks magazine as a labour of love for the unrepresented, curious and critically thinking girl.
We offer 10 topics, covering a world of ideas, six times a year:
Girl in the world – discover a country and a girl or woman of influence from that country
Careergirl – review a new career option
Science & Tech – the latest in science and technology
Art & Design – learn about an influential artist, or learn a new craft
Health & Beauty – tips to help any teen
Fashion & Style – the latest trends and fashions
Sports & Fitness – get moving and find a sport that interests you!
Entertainment – movies, games (including Indie), book reviews and lots of music
Moneygirl – how to manage & budget your money
Quizzes & Games – spot the differences, quizzes and more!
The publisher assumes that many young women read at an adult level (or nearly), have a LOT of interests and want to be educated and informed. And respected!
Our magazines are free of paid advertising, so any product you see in our publication is chosen by our Editors – not paid for by advertisers.
So, get hip, get savvy and get real.
